Why fish from a kayak?
Good question. I was one who wondered about fishing from a kayak. But about 10 years ago, I accompanied a friend on a kayak fishing trip. I quickly realized that instead of being intruders, we were actually part of the environment. We were able to get closer to the fish because they didn't know we were there.
Since I started kayak fishing, my success rate has gone up immensely. Not only do I usually catch more fish, but I truly enjoy the environment.
On a typical outing, we see lots of wildlife, including dolphins, manatees, ospreys, bald eagles, stingrays, great blue herons, roseate spoonbills, ibis and others.
Come fish with Southern Drawl Kayak Fishing and you'll see!
Welcome
Kayak fishing is perhaps the fastest growing segment of the sport. Virtually unseen on the saltwater flats and freshwater lakes and streams just a few years ago, kayaks have caught on in a big way. Not only are kayaks affordable for most anglers, but they also allow you to fish in waters that might not be accessible in other vessels.
Southern Drawl Kayak Fishing offers saltwater and freshwater trips. We fish the saltwater backcountry from Tampa Bay to Pine Island Sound, targeting snook, redfish, spotted seatrout, tarpon and other species. In addition, we fish freshwater lakes and streams in southwest Florida for bass, bluegill, shellcracker, tilapia and exotics such as oscars and Mayan cichlids.
Our kayaks are especially designed for fishing. They're known as "sit
on top" kayaks, which are beamy, very stable, easy to paddle and have room
to carry plenty of gear.
Southern Drawl Kayak Fishing supplies all fishing gear, but you may
bring your favorite rods if you prefer.
We paddle the waters of southern Tampa Bay, Sarasota Bay, Roberts Bay, Little Sarasota Bay,
Blackburn Bay, Lemon Bay, Gasparilla Sound, Catfish Creek, Whidden Creek, Matlacha and Pine Island Sound for snook, redfish, spotted seatrout, ladyfish, jack crevalle, flounder and others.
In addition, we fish Florida 's freshwater lakes and streams for bass, bluegill, tilapia, speckled perch and catfish. One of our most popular trips is our visit to The Everglades where we target exotics like oscars and
Mayan cichlids, and bass, bluegill, shellcracker, speckled perch, snook and tarpon. Come experience the thrill of kayak fishing at its best.
Southern Drawl takes you fishing, not for a boat ride.
